#C170 - 12cm Floor Board - Matsu

This 11.8cm go board was refurbished in our Colorado workshop. Photos of the refurbishing process give you an idea of the grain, and how it looks with a fresh coat of Monkey Wax.

The board is lovely, and the playing surface is in really good shape. It has a warm brown heartwood color from Matsu (pine).

The cut is Kiura, the most preferred of the cross-grain cuts that show the log's growth rings on the endgrain. In carpentry terms this would be called a Plain-sawn board. On the sides, there are straight grains, and the top and bottom have cross-grain patterns. 

The edges are and corners did have some defects that were rounded off. It has a traditional grid made of raised lacquer.
