Two decorative handles flank this impressive copper brazier. Most likely used for burning incense at a temple, it is the art on the sides that bring it to life. This is a unique item.

Two men in fine garments play Go, while a child looks on between them. To the side, equipment for making matcha tea is present. Nearby there is an onlooker - this may be a depiction of the classic Go Eternals, a story in which a man watches the Gods play Go and is so transfixed that he becomes an old man (his ax becomes rusty in his hand and falls apart, etc).

Other sides have different scenes, complete with landscapes and flowering trees. The entire piece features ornately detailed work. If a patina is not desired, the whole vessel could easily be cleaned with vinegar and a plastic brush.

There is a signature stamped on the underside, as well as one on the art itself. There is a single issue in the scrollwork pattern at the bottom, where some corrosion seems to have occurred, please see the photo.

We know that it can take years to burn enough incense to fill such an urn, so the ash has been saved and is included (about 3 pounds). It fills the urn 4 inches deep. We do not know the specific contents, so it is bagged up separately and we can dispose of it if you do not need it.

It is 7.5in wide at the base, 10in wide at the top rim (not including handles), about 10in tall, and stores up to about 7.5in deep. Empty weight is 10lb.
