#C274 - Size 36 Slate & Shell Set - Japanese Clamshell - XL Keyaki / Ash bowls

 These gorgeous go bowls come with refurbished slate & clamshell go stones. 

The wood has a pleasant orange-brown tone with grain like Ash. They are XL size, please see the photos for measurements. They have not been refurbished, and have their original finish. Pads for the bottoms of the bowls are included. They may be something more valuable like Cherry or Mulberry.

The 180 white pieces are Japanese clamshell. The slow-growing Japanese clams are beyond Snow grade, with incredibly dense lines. They were soaked in hydrogen peroxide for a week before being rinsed with distilled water. To show off the density of the clamshell, three stones were photographed with a flashlight - here you can see the interior is a warm red/orange color, unlike the yellow color of Mexican clamshell. For these same reasons, they will have a slightly creamy patina instead of being pure white. 

The 181 black stones are slate, and are slightly larger than the white; this is usually preferred so that they appear the same size side-by-side. They were washed with soapy water and rinsed with distilled water, but have not been buffed with mineral oil as we leave this choice to you.
