#C308 - Size 36 Slate & Shell Set - Japanese Clamshell - XL Ash bowls

These gorgeous refurbished go bowls come with refurbished slate & clamshell go stones. 

The wood was turned super-thin, so the bowls are pleasantly lightweight. They have a lovely pale tone, and are likely Ash or Horse Chestnut. They are XL size and fit the stones comfortably. One hairline crack was reglued to keep it from spreading, then the bowls were treated with Monkey Butter.

The 180 white pieces are Japanese clamshell. The slow-growing Japanese clams are beyond Snow grade, with incredibly dense lines. They were soaked in hydrogen peroxide for a week before being rinsed with distilled water. To show off the density of the clamshell, three stones were photographed with a flashlight - here you can see the interior is a warm red/orange color, unlike the yellow color of Mexican clamshell. 

The 181 black stones are slate. They are slightly larger than the white to account for black's slimming effect. They were washed with soapy water and rinsed with distilled water, but have not been buffed with mineral oil as we leave this choice to you.
