#C394 - Size 36 Slate & Shell Set - XL Keyaki bowls by Kaishi

These Keyaki (zelkova wood) bowls have a pleasant orange-brown tone. They are XL size, and fit the stones snugly. The underside of each has a maker's mark where it has been branded by Kaishi, a go bowl maker. Because they arrived to Colorado in very good condition, they have not been refurbished and still have their original finish.

The 180 white pieces are clamshell, size 35/36. They were soaked in hydrogen peroxide for a week before being rinsed with distilled water. There is a mix of grades, but they are mostly Standard-grade Mexican clamshells. While the growth lines are visible while back-lit, under normal light very few lines are visible. This would be a nice set for someone who prefers this plain look.

The 181 black stones are slate. They are slightly larger than the white; this is preferred so that they appear the same size side-by-side on the board because of black's slimming effect. They were washed with soapy water and rinsed with distilled water, but have not been buffed with mineral oil as we leave this choice to you.
