This is a wonderful katsura goban from a go enthusiast in Kumamoto prefecture. It is in excellent condition.
The board is from a slow-growing tree with gorgeous heartwood. It has most of the hallmarks of Katsura, with tight grains and a red-orange heartwood that is consistent across the board, but could be Matsuju. It is a Kiura cut, the most preferred of Center cut when the tree is not large enough for a Cross cut. This cutting style shows off the growth rings of the tree on the ends, with straight lines along the sides. Soft heartwood ripples over the underside and playing surface give an impression of wind on water, something a bit less angular than the heartwood of a shin-kaya tree.
The shine of the grid (see the photo with glare) suggests that the grid is the traditional raised-lacquer style.
The corners and edges look perfect. It is in amazing shape, without major flaws as far as I can tell. Please refer to the photos to see for yourself. A manufacturer's sticker is still on the navel, which can be a good indicator of quality.

FedEx International Priority shipping from Japan (to almost everywhere) is already included in the purchase price, which is a $250-$350 service (depending on weight and size) that reduces the shipping time to only 5 business days. This also means your items will spend less time in transit, so they are less likely arrive with damage.
Please understand that this is a vintage item, not a new product.
