This go game set includes a lacqured 18cm floor board (31cm with legs), chestnut go bowls, and glass go stones. It was from an antique seller in Akita prefecture.
The board is amazing. It is probably Shin-kaya, known for its incredibly straight lines and warm color. At 18cm thick, it weighs about 17kg. It is most likely a masame cut, given that the entire playing surface has consistent lines running parallel to the grid. The corners and edges all look fine. It has been carefully lacquered and decorated with the Three Leaves of Hollyhock (Mitsuba Aoi) which is the crest of the Tokugawa Clan, a popular emblem among martial artists.
The go board comes with a traditional cloth cover with gold fringe, as well as a paulownia wooden cover.
The go bowls are chestnut, they look worn but sturdy. A pen-mark on one lid should be removed with rubbing alcohol.
The go stones appear to be old glass ones with some wear, about size 35, and are about 10% short of a full set of 180 each. I can forward glass stones to you in April, when I am expecting my next shipment of equipment (I don't normally carry glass stones).
All told, the set weighs 24 kilograms.
FedEx International Priority shipping from Japan (to almost everywhere) is already included in the purchase price (a $300 value), which reduces the transit time to only 5 business days. This also means your items will have more room for padding and spend less time traveling, so they are less likely to be damaged by the shipping.
Please understand that this is a vintage item, so it is sold in an as-is condition.
