This 18cm thick goban came to Baduk Club from a private home in Kanagawa. It has a pale yellow tone and could be confused for Kaya, if not for the incredible uniform growth lines and lighter weight. It stands 30cm tall on its legs.
It weighs 13.5kg, so it is a fast-growing tree like Alaskan Spruce. This is also apparent in how close together the tree rings are when you examine the end-grain. It is the premeir cut (shihou-masa) for large boards, because it provides parallel lines along all 6 surfaces. Such a cut is only possible with incredibly large trees. The grid-lines are slightly raised, a result of being hand-lacquered by tachimori.
It has been well-kept, and even the paulownia lid is in great shape. The edges and corners all look very good.

FedEx International Priority shipping to the US from Japan is already included in the purchase price for free, a $300 service that reduces the actual transit time to only 5 business days. This does represent a huge piece of the overall cost, but is necessary given the board's size. The upside is that a FedEx box has sufficient room for padding in order to avoid shipping damage. A FedEx tracking number will be provided that you can use to sign up for notifications.
Please understand that this is a Vintage product, so it is sold in an as-is condition.
