This sturdy set comes from Toyama. It includes a 6cm table board - it looks to have been a floor board with the legs removed - as well as chestnut bowls and glass stones.
The board is a 3-piece hagi board, which is done to use scrap pieces of good wood and helps prevent the usual warping that thinner boards experience over time when made of a single piece of wood.
It weighs 6kg, so it is quite dense, which is consistent with a slow-growth tree like Kaya. The underside is a bit messy, but could be cleaned. I would probably cover it with a felt pad.
The board doesn't look like much, but it has the potential to clean up really nicely. The end-grain alone convinced me it was worth saving. Check out my Care Instructions for more.
The bowls are classic red-brown chestnut, and they look good apart from a knot on the underside of one bowl and a small scratch on one lid. The stones are glass. If you are looking for an inexpensive but nice set, look no further but expect to wait a while on Seamail shipping.
All told, the set weighs 10kg.
International seamail shipping from Japan (to almost everywhere) is already included in the purchase price for free - however, this service takes up to 2-3 months. You may upgrade to FedEx shipping by adding this upgrade to your cart. This also means your items will have more room for padding and spend less time in transit, so they are less likely to be damaged by the shipping. In either case you will have a tracking number from the shipping service that you can use to sign up for notifications.
Please understand that this is a vintage item, so it is sold in an as-is condition.
