This board was acquired from a garage sale in Yamagata Prefecture and is being paired with a set of chestnut bowls from Saitama.
The board appears to be a cross-cut (tenchi-masa). This is a rather odd cut to use on a board of this thickness, but it is a common cut with shin-kaya boards to show off their even lines. In this case the cut results in straight lines across the ends, the playing surface, and the underside of the board. If it is not shin-kaya, then it is probably Katsura or Matsu. In any case, it is in very good condition except for a couple small defects on the playing surface (see photos). The grid-lines are slightly raised, an indicator that it was hand-lacquered by tachimori.
The bowls are classic chestnut, XL size.
The stones are glass, and a full set of 181 black and 180 white. They were not measured, but they look size 34ish (9.5mm).
International seamail shipping from Japan (to almost everywhere) is already included in the purchase price for free - however, this service takes up to 2-3 months. You may upgrade to FedEx shipping for a fee, which reduces the shipping time to only 5 business days. This also means your items will have more room for padding and spend less time in transit, so they are less likely to be damaged by the shipping. In either case you will have a tracking number from the shipping service that you can use to sign up for notifications.
Please understand that this is a vintage item, so it is sold in an as-is condition.
