This Goban set came to Baduk Club from a secondhand shop in Miyazaki, Japan.
The go board has wavy endgrain that is unmistakably Kaya with its sweet scent. The cut is somewhere between Kiura and Oi-masa, owing to the peculiar shape of the tree. This plain-sawn style borders on rift-sawn, so most of the board has shown great dimensional stability and cracks have been limited to the underside. The board has a raised lacquer grid made with Tachimori. It stands 26cm tall on beautiful legs, and it comes with a Paulownia lid.
The bowls are Chestnut with their original finish.
The stones are a full set of slate and shell, size 32 (about 9mm). There are 181 black and 180 white pieces plus 8 spares. They could use a cleaning, please refer to our Care instructions.
