This deluxe go set came to BadukClub from a recycle shop in Niigata, Japan.
The board is 18cm thick and weighs 16.5kg. It has an even yellow color typical of Shinkaya (Alaskan Spruce). and it is a quarter-sawn board, a Tenchi-masa cut. This cutting style is very highly rated, as it has excellent dimensional stability and produces straight lines on nearly all of the surfaces. The board comes with a fancy paulownia cover.
The go bowls look like Cherry or some kind of Mulberry. They fit the go stones comfortably. The stones are slate & shell, but were not measured or counted. They appear to be 8.5mm-9.5mm (size 32-34). The bowls come with a paulownia storage box.
The style and condition of the paulownia storage lids indicates a more recent production. This set is likely less than 30 years old.
Because this set is still in Japan, it has not been refurbished in our Colorado workshop, so we can offer it at a discount. There may be small imperfections not specified here.
