This set came to Baduk Club from a second-hand shop in Hyogo. Yunzi stones are not a very familiar product for us, as they are generally inexpensive, but currently seem to be out of stock with other vendors.
There are some advantages to single-convex stones, besides the nice snap of playing them; they don't wobble when the table is jostled; their luster improves with age as they absorb oils from the hands; you can invert them to explore variations without losing track of which stones don't belong on the board; etc.
Judging by how the stones sit in the bowls, it looks like the black ones are slightly thicker than the white, which is a good sign of a quality set (when both are the same size, the bright white will appear larger). They have not been counted.
The go bowls look like a high-grade material between Cherry and Quince. They have a reddish hue that is strikingly similar to when I treated cherry bowls with boiled linseed oil a year ago.
The set includes decorative pouches and a latching storage box that serves as a decorative case - please see the photos for details. The case measures 36cm x 15cm x 19cm.
We are not as familiar with Yunzi as we are with Slate & Shell stones. For more on Yunzi stones, visit Sensei's Library.
International Seamail shipping from Japan (to almost everywhere) is already included in the purchase price for free via Japan Post Surface, which takes up to 3 months. You may upgrade to Airmail shipping by adding this upgrade to your cart (size Small) - this also means your items will have more room for padding and spend less time in transit, so they are less likely to be damaged by the shipping. In either case, you will have a tracking number from the shipping service that you can use to sign up for notifications.
Please understand that this is a Vintage product.
