This set came to Baduk Club from a reseller in Kanagawa.
The board has all the hallmarks of a domestic Japanese Kaya: very thin and wavy growth-lines, a warm tone, a sweet scent, and a high density. At just 10.2cm thick the board weighs 10.8kg. It is a hagi board, made of two pieces - sometimes this is done to prevent warping over time, but it is more likely that the tree wasn't large enough to support a normal center-cut. A fresh coat of wax will make this board glow - see our Care Instructions for more on that. There is a protective lid which has kept the edges and corners in great shape. The legs can be removed if you want to use it as a table board.
The bowls are size XL chestnut, and they fit the stones easily. They have a nice reddish brown tone and their original finish. They come with a protective paulownia box.
The stones are size 30 (8mm thick). There are 180 white, plus 2 extra spares; they look mostly moon-grade. There are 181 black, plus 2 extra spares. Please examine the stones when they arrive to ensure none are broken - if replacement pieces are needed we will provide those for free, but ask that you cover the additional cost of shipping.
