This clean set comes from an art dealer in Kawasaki City. It set includes an 11.5cm floor board with legs (total height 24cm), chestnut bowls, glass go stones, and a good folding board.
This board is a great specimen. It has incredibly clean corners and edges, but it also has amazing grain. The cut is the most preferred cross-cut (kiura) which puts amazing waves in the center of the grid and lovely lines along the rest of the board for the eyes to follow. The warm heartwood color and super-thin tree rings tell me that it is a slow-growth tree. It is quite dense, weighing almost 12kg. I would guess that it is Katsura but it may be a species of Kaya. The white wax residue on the surface, sides and bottom are a good sign that it has been regularly waxed.
The chestnut bowls are in good shape. They have darkened brown with age and use, so you can see that the interior is dry but the exterior has its shellac intact. Speaking for myself, I would use a varnish stripper to remove it before oiling and waxing them so that they don't become more brittle over time, but they are fine as-is (for more, check my Care Instructions).
The go stones are a full set of glass. There are 181 black and 180 white, but the size was not measured. They look approximately 8-9mm thick (size 30-32).
A very clean folding board with lacquered lines is included, so you will have something portable for the club as well as a floor board for at home.
All told, the set weighs 17 kilos.
International seamail shipping from Japan (to almost everywhere) is already included in the purchase price for free - however, this service takes up to 2-3 months. You may upgrade to FedEx shipping by adding this upgrade to your cart. This also means your items will have more room for padding and spend less time in transit, so they are less likely to be damaged by the shipping. In either case you will have a tracking number from the shipping service that you can use to sign up for notifications.
Please understand that this is a vintage item, so it is sold in an as-is condition.
