This clean 12cm floor board came to Baduk Club from a peer-to-peer network, and the seller said, "[The board was used by my grandfather.]" This board is a great specimen, though at first I doubted it was old because it looks so new. But I think he was right - it looks like it was professionally resurfaced at some point; I note that the pyramid in the navel has a slight plateau instead of a sharp peak. It's possible that it was made that way, but more likely that each side has been re-planed. That would explain why it is so clean and bright with good edges and corners, and the grid was probably redrawn as well.

The board stands 24cm with the legs on. I think it is Katsura wood. It has a nice orange tone throughout, and is quite dense (13.55kg, though that includes the box and packing material). The white wax residue on the endgrain and underside is good sign that it has been regularly waxed and cared for - that will easily clear up with a scrubbing of a clean cotton cloth, but we would recommend that the board be fully waxed and oiled.

The cut is the most preferred center-cut (kiura) which puts amazing heartwood waves in the center of the playing grid and on the underside. Along the rest of the grid and sides are dense, straight lines which are easy on the eyes. The warm heartwood color and super-thin tree rings tell me that it is a slow-growth tree, so if it is not Katsura it is likely Agathis or Korean Cypress. Still, I think it is Katsura - see how well the legs (which are usually made of Katsura) match the tone of the board.

International Seamail shipping from Japan (to almost everywhere) is already included in the purchase price for free - however, this service takes up to 2-3 months. You may upgrade to FedEx shipping by adding this upgrade to your cart (size Large). This also means your items will have more room for padding and spend less time in transit, so they are less likely to be damaged by the shipping. In either case you will have a tracking number from the shipping service that you can use to sign up for notifications.
