This is a handsome goban from a private home in Osaka.
The board has a warm-color heartwood that fades towards the lower corners. It is a Kiura cut, the most preferred of Center cut when the tree is not large enough for a Cross cut. This cutting style shows off the growth rings of the tree on the ends, with straight lines along the sides. Heartwood ripples on the surface, like a strong wind on water, create angular waves typical of Pine. The warm color could mean Katsura, but I think only the legs are dark orange enough to be Katsura for sure. The edges look good, though the corners have some wear. It stands 25cm tall with legs.
This was a rather quick sale, and a full set of photos was not taken. As a result it is unclear whether the stones are slate & shell or glass, whether there is a full contingent of stones, what their size is, etc (they look size 28-32). The bowls are Keyaki (zelkova), a high-quality wood, and they are in great condition with their original finish, so my intuition is that the playing pieces are high-quality as well. This set will be discounted for a limited time, until I am sure of the material and quality of the stones (probably a few weeks, since requests for photos are fairly low-priority at my warehouse).
