This Japanese goban was shipped from Japan to Colorado for refurbishing. It was treated with our Monkey Wax, a linseed oil / beeswax formula and given a week to Cure. You can see the cleanup photos on my Instagram.
The go board appears to be Katsura or Agathis in very good condition. It is very dense, with very tight tree rings. It is a Cross-Cut (Kiura) which shows off the center of the tree. It weighs 12.8 kilograms without legs, and has acquired a nice brown tone over time, no doubt the result of regular care and its dark heartwood. There heartwood becomes slightly lighter towards the lower corners. The surface has lovely heartwood lines (cross grains), like a kind of lake with ripples. The sides have straight grain.
There is a dark line on the underside - this is part of the heartwood, not a crack. There is a small scratch on one corner of the playing surface, and a dent on the bottom edge from being dropped. Some of the corners have been blunted slightly as well. I have taken extensive photos so that you can best understand the condition..
The grid-lines are glossy and slightly raised, an indicator that it was hand-lacquered by tachimori.
If you want Legs, consider bundling this board with C055 (dark) or C057 (pale - see photos), both would fit snugly with the minimum amount of needing to chisel/shape the pegs.
This is a Vintage product.
This board ships from Colorado, USA, via USPS.
