This go set comes from a private home in Chiba where it has been used carefully for the last 40 years. It includes a 17.5cm floor board (30cm with legs), mid-tier go bowls, and slate and shell go stones.
The board has a beautiful cross-cut (shihou masa), which puts the grains of the tree in even parallel lines across the ends, surface, and bottom. The sides also have beautiful lines. This is the most-preferred way to cut a go board, and is only possible with an enormous tree to start from. There is a cloth cover, and a protective paulownia lid that ensure the corners and edges over a long life. It is a bit dirtier in the marked section, but a good cleaning will do it much good.
The go bowls look like Keyaki (Zelkova), but may be Cherry. They are most likely XL size but were not closely examined.
The stones are slate and shell, size 31 (8mm-8.5mm). There is a full set, but I don't know the grade. Some pitting can occur over time and is not cause for replacement, but I will send replacements for any pieces that turn out to be badly chipped or broken. This is included in the purchase price.
All told, the set weighs 20kg.
FedEx International Priority shipping from Japan (to almost everywhere) is already included in the purchase price (a $300 value), which reduces the transit time to only 5 business days. This also means your items will have more room for padding and spend less time traveling, so they are less likely to be damaged by the shipping.
Please understand that this is a vintage item, so it is sold in an as-is condition.
