This 14.6cm thick goban comes from a shogi and go dealer in Nara, japan. It is from a tremendous slow-growing tree, which provides a great center-cut that shows off the tree rings. The seller indicates it is katsura, which is likely because of the warm orange-brown color and the consistency of that color throughout the heartwood. I'm only 90% sure, so it will be discounted in case it is an old slow-growing pine. Katsura is increasingly rare, as it is a depleted wood in Japan.
Overall the board looks well-kept. The edges are all good, though the corners aren't quite as proud as a new board - they may have had slight impacts over the years. It weighs 13.5kg.
The 12cm legs are in good shape and bring the board up to a total of 26.7cm tall.
This board ships from Japan via Japan Post Surface shipping, which is already included in the purchase price - please note this will involve removing the legs and sending them separately. This shipping method is the least expensive, but it takes up to 3 months in transit and offers little room for padding. It is possible to upgrade to FedEx International Priority shipping to reduce the transit time to 5 business days and provide more padding - you can do that by adding the Express Airmail Upgrade to your cart (size Large). In either case, please allow a week for packing and preparations, then a tracking number will be provided that you can use to sign up for notifications.
