This go set includes a Kaya floor board with legs, keyaki bowls, and slate & shell stones.
The board is amazing. This is the real deal - textbook Kaya. I'd be tempted to take the time to count the tree rings from the upper corner to the bottom center but I'm too busy typing this description. It's ooooooold. Valued for its color and scent, Kaya is also a very dense wood because it is a slow-growing tree.
It is an inverted center-cut, which is usually done when a knot presents itself in the heartwood, so you will probably find that knot on the underside and that imperfection may be one of the reasons that the seller did not provide more complete photos. The main reason I suspect is that they were lazy - normally I would have an exact weight and height, but I don't. In any case, I think the marvelous lines speak for themselves. It has darkened a bit with age and use, but will clean up beautifully.
The XL bowls are a bright keyaki, and they may be XXL since they seem to hold a full set of stones with a lot of room to spare.
The stones are slate & shell, approximately 8.8mm thick (size 32). Again, the lack of measurements was infuriating but since the board was such a prize I let this slide and I hope you'll forgive me. The clamshells look to be Utility or Moon grade. A few days following my Care Instructions will clean them up completely.
All told, the set weighs 20kg.
FedEx International Priority shipping from Japan (to almost everywhere) is already included in the purchase price, which is an $300 service that reduces the shipping time to only 5 business days. This also means your items will have more room for padding and spend less time in transit, so they are less likely to be damaged by the process.
Please understand that this is a vintage item, so it is sold in an as-is condition.
