This board came to Baduk Club from Aichi prefecture.
The board is lovely, and in really good shape. It has amazing straight grain and a clean and refined look. Based on the appearance, I would guess that it is Shin-kaya or Cypress, but could be Camphor or something similar.
It stands 20.5cm tall with the legs on.
The cut is a Tenchi-masa, one of the most preferred cross-cuts. This puts straight lines on the endgrains and across the playing surface and underside. On the sides, awesome cross-grains make interesting patterns. From a certain angle, the veins on the surface look like scratches, but they are unique features of the wood and the surface is smooth there.
There are two photo sets - one with artificial light from the seller in Japan, and a second set with some natural light from Colorado.
This is a vintage item.
