They were cleaned with a weeklong soak in oxygenated water, rinsed with distilled water, and air dried. The 181 black pieces are slate, slightly larger than the white to account for black's slimming effect. The black stones were washed and rinsed with distilled water, but they have not been buffed with mineral oil so we leave that option to you.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe bowls are Kokutan (ebony), a dense and rare wood in the rosewood family. They feature beautiful black and brown stripes, crafted expertly with perfect punts\/kick-ups. This is an old set, which had dried out and cracked. After removing their original finish, the cracks were reglued. Then Monkey Butter was applied and polished clean.
