They could be Keyaki (zelkova) or something similar like mulberry or yellow cypress. They feature beautiful heathering with high chatoyance. They were refurbished in our Colorado workshop by being scrubbed of their original finish and treated with Monkey Butter. They are size XL and fit the stones comfortably.

The 180 white pieces are Japanese clamshell. They were soaked in h2o2 for a week, washed, scrubbed, then rinsed with distilled water. Japanese stones are no longer produced due to depletion, but they are preferred for their high density - the waters at that high latitude cause clams to grow more slowly and with thinner lines.

The 181 black pieces are Japanese slate, slightly larger than the white pieces to account for black's slimming effect. They were washed with soapy water and rinsed with distilled water. They have been buffed with mineral oil.

Shipping Details:
This item ships from Colorado, USA.
