This nice goban set came to Baduk Club from a private home in Osaka. The seller says, "I've been sorting through some items that were in my parents' house." It includes a pine board, go bowls, and slate & shell stones. As a bonus, a second set of chestnut bowls and glass stones are included.

The go board is about 15cm thick, an average size. It stands about 27cm tall with legs on. It looks like pine, with a standard Kiura cut. This is a Plain-sawn board, where the core of the tree will be visible on the ends where the players sit. Unfortunately the seller did not provide complete pictures, those may be available at a later date. This kind of cut is good for boards when the tree is not thick enough to be Quarter-sawn. You can see the deep color of the heartwood on top, and then the lighter tone that is present in the lower edges.

It is in good shape, but seems dry. A fresh paste-wax coating can still be a good idea to help it slowly adjust to your climate. Visit my  Care Instructions   to learn more about caring for this board.

The orange-brown bowls have great lines and are most likely Keyaki, but could be something similar like Cherry or a type of Mulberry. Although they were not measured, they appear size XL based on their footprint on the board as well as their ability to hold the stones.

The stones are slate and shell, but were not measured or counted. They appear to be size 25-30, about 7mm-8mm thick.

The bonus set of chestnut bowls is smaller, size L, and has 6mm glass stones.

    This is a Vintage  product.

    Shipping Details:

FedEx International Priority shipping from Japan (to everywhere) is already included in the purchase price, a service that reduces the actual transit time to only 5 business days. This is more than half of the overall cost (about $250-$300), but necessary to provide sufficient room for padding. The actual value for Customs Declarations and VAT will not include this shipping fee.

It is possible to save about $150 by downgrading to Japan Post Seamail. Please contact us with the Chat widget to request this at your own risk (accidents can happen during the 3 months in transit). First, please check the Japan Post website to verify that your country accepts Japan Post Surface.

In either case, please allow 1 week for the board to be packed and to clear Customs, then a tracking number will be provided that you can  use to sign up for notifications.
