This set of go stones and go bowls was refurbished and ships from Colorado, USA.
All of the stones were cleaned according to our Care Instructions. The clamshells were soaked in h2o2 for a week and rinsed with distilled water. The black pieces were washed with a mild detergent, rinsed with distilled water. They have not been buffed as this is a rather unique set of stones...
The 180 white stones are Japanese clams. They are Suwabute stones, with lines that are packed so thick that Snow does not quite do them justice. Rather, these slow-growing clams are no longer harvested due to depletion, and are graded differently than Mexican clamshell. They would be considered Blossom or Snow grade Suwabute stones, noted by only a faint presence of irregular orange colorations. They are size 22, 6.4-6.6mm thick and 22mm wide. Purchased new, a set like this costs over $400 for the stones alone (if they are in stock).
The 181 black slate stones are slightly wider, 22.5mm, and it is very common for the black stones to be larger because if both colors are actually the same size then the bright white pieces will appear larger. They are roughly the same thickness, at 6.5mm. They can be buffed with mineral oil if you want a darker look.
The bowls are a gorgeous red-brown color. They are most likely Cherry or Mulberry. They were cut in a delicate but sturdy shape, so they almost feel like Teak in the hands. The bowls were refurbished (scrubbed clean and then polished with Monkey Wax and given two weeks to cure). You may buff them again with a clean cloth when they arrive.
Please understand that this is a Vintage item, and is probably an antique. Individual stones may have incidental marks but pieces with significant chips were replaced.
