This wonderful set of go equipment was refurbished in our Colorado workshop.
The stones are size 30 slate & shell. They have been cleaned per our Care Instructions. As you can see from the photos, the 180 white pieces are clamshell. The 181 black pieces are slate, slightly larger than the white to account for black's slimming effect.
The clamshell stones are from Mexican giant clam. They were washed, soaked in h2o2 for a week, and rinsed with distilled water. The black stones were washed and rinsed with distilled water, but they have not been buffed with mineral oil so we leave that option to you.
The bowls are Kokutan (ebony), a dense and rare wood in the rosewood family. The bowls were cleaned of their original shellac and finished with a Monkey Butter polish. They feature beautiful black and brown stripes. They were fashioned exquisitely, with perfect punts/kick-ups. To help protect the stones from the hard wood and from potential discoloration, a thin rubber mat is adhered inside each bowl.
