This is a wonderful set of equipment which was refurbished in our Colorado workshop.
The stones are size 35 slate & size 34 shell. They have been cleaned per our Care Instructions. As you can see from the photos, the white pieces are utility-grade Mexican clamshell ~9.3mm thick, while the black pieces are slate ~10mm thick. It is preferred that the black be slightly larger than the white due to black's slimming effect.
The 180 clamshell stones were washed, soaked in h2o2 for a week, then rinsed with distilled water. The black stones were washed, then rinsed with distilled water, but have not been buffed with mineral oil as we leave this choice to you.
The bowls are Keyaki (zelkova), and come with an original vintage box. They are XL size, and they fit the size 36 stones snugly. The bowls were scrubbed clean of their original shellac and treated with Monkey Butter, a combination of mineral oil and beeswax.
