This Japanese go board was shipped to Colorado for refurbishing. It has the wavy grain, high density, and candy color that we expect from Kaya. It is 6cm thick and weighs 5.6kg.
This is a hagi board, made of 5 pieces of wood joined together. This type of construction helps prevent warping that may occur when a thin board is made of a single piece. The pieces selected for construction of this board are quartersawn or rift-sawn, adding great dimensional stability.
The board carries some marks from use, but is in excellent shape. The wood was sanded on 5 sides and treated with Monkey Butter. The raised lacquer grid was kept intact. One dented corner was rounded over.
