This board came to Baduk club from a reseller in Osaka, Japan.
The board is a lovely color typical of Kaya. Other signs also point to Kaya like the dark orange resin in the endgrain, the raised lacquer grid, and the unique sweet scent. It also has a high density, weighing about 5kg.
It is a 3-piece hagi board, where the wood has been joined together - this type of construction is quite common for a table board, to avoid the potential for warping that comes from making a thin board of a single piece.
This is a vintage item. The underside has knots. The sides would benefit from a gentle scrubbing to remove old finish. Other small defects may exist.
