This Goban came to Baduk Club from a private home in Tottori, Japan. The owner writes "[My great-grandfather's name is on the underside (whitened in the photo), so it must be over 100 years old. I am moving and have nowhere to take it, so I would like to get it to someone who loves Go or is interested in old antiques and will use it with care.]"
The board has a warm-color heartwood color, high density, and wavy endgrain. These indicators point towards Kaya, but with the antique patina it is hard to be certain.
The board stands about 24cm tall on legs, or they can be removed if you want to use it as a table board. The board would benefit from a scrubbing followed by an application of paste wax.
