This flashy set came to Baduk Club from a private home in Aichi, Japan. Agate and Onyx are a popular choice in China, where this set probably came from originally.
The white pieces are agate, with a nice variance in color. The black look like Onyx - but may be something similar like Obisidian or Black Agate - they are thicker than the white to account for black's slimming effect. The stones are about size 30-36 (8-10mm) thick - semi-precious stones are very hard, so it is difficult to cut with the same precision as slate and shell. The set is missing one white stone, so there are 181 black and 179 white pieces.
The go bowls are Marble, with lids cut to match. They are polished on the outside but may be rough on the interior. We would recommend using bowl liners or bags for the stones to avoid marble dust. One of the lids has a slight nick.
