This clean 13.4cm floor board came to Baduk Club from a vintage shop in Miyazaki. According to the seller it is unused, but may have some scratches due to storage. The board is clean and bright with good edges and corners.
The board stands 26cm with the legs on. I think it is Katsura wood, due to the nice orange tone and the gentle ripples in the heartwood. It's possible that it is something similar, like Taiwanese Cypress. In the lower corners the way the non-heartwood has such a different tone makes me think it could be Matsu, though usually the heartwood of pine would have more angular ripples. Legs are usually made from Katsura, and these seem to match the tone of the board as well.
The cut is the more preferred of the center cuts (kiura) which puts amazing heartwood waves in the center of the playing grid and straight lines everywhere else.
The board comes with its original cloth cover and paulownia lid. They have done an excellent job in protecting the board from the elements.
There doesn't seem to be much evidence of old wax. If your climate is less humid than Japan, we would recommend that you treat this board when it arrives. Please see our Care Instructions to learn more.
