This awesome goban set came to Baduk Club from a private home in Tokyo. The owner says, "I have multiple boards so I never use it. There is just a small scratch on one side about 2cm."
The board is 8cm thick, and stands 20cm tall on legs. It has a pleasant yellow color that is easy on the eyes. The endgrain is dense and wavy and looks like textbook Kaya. It is a Hagi board, made of multiple pieces - this helps prevent warping, which can occur when a board this thin is made from a single piece.
The corners and edges are in great condition. Based on change in hue on the sides, my guess is that there was a table board lid that was used to cover the top of the board for a long time. Overall the board is in great shape with the exception of a small scratch on the side (please see the photos for details) that should be minimized by a fresh treatment of paste wax. Visit my Care Instructions to learn more. It would be good to wax the board, at minimum, unless your climate is as humid as Japan's.
The bowls look like Cherry, but could be Keyaki (zelkova). They come with a protective storage box made of Paulownia. The stones are slate and shell, about size 30 (8mm). There are 181 pieces of each color, plus four black spares.
This is a Vintage item.
