This set came to Baduk Club from a go board collector in Kumamoto.
There are 182 black and 181 white pieces. The black are slate, about 10mm. The white are clamshell, about 9.7mm. It is common for the black to be thicker than the white - if they are made the same size then the shiny white stones appear larger.
The Japanese go bowls are size XL Karin (quince). Sometimes called Indian Rosewood for their color and pattern, they have a nice red color that will become more orange and brown over time. They have their original finish, so refurbishing may not be necessary. Quince has a high density, so they are heavy.
This set is still in Japan, it has not been cleaned in our Colorado shop. This is why we can offer it at a discounted rate. Please refer to the photos, as we do not have additional information.
