This set came to Baduk Club from a private home in Saitama.
The stones are slate and shell, about size 34 (9.4mm). They look like Mexican clamshell, based on the density of the lines, with a slightly creamy patina from age. The black clearly fill the bowls more completely than the white, and this is common, as the black stones are just slightly wider - if they are made the same size then the shiny white stones appear larger when the pieces are side by side.
The Japanese go bowls look like Keyaki, probably XL size based on how they fit the stones.
The bowls come with a protective paulownia storage box in a modern style. It may be missing its original ribbon. An inscription on the underside reads "Showa 56," the year 1981.
This set is still in Japan, it has not been cleaned in our Colorado shop. This is why we can offer it at a discounted rate. It may be possible to brighten the clamshell stones, to restore the wooden bowls, and to buff the slate stones with mineral oil, but we leave that to you.
Please refer to the photos, as we do not have additional information.
