This 17cm thick goban came to Baduk Club from a private home in Chiba. It is from a tremendous Spruce which allows for this amazing cross-cut, so you see straight parallel lines the top, bottom, and endgrain. Straight lines are easy on the eyes while playing. Spectators get to enjoy the wonderful cross-grain on the sides.
Overall it looks very well-kept. The corners are good, and there is only 1 slight dent on the edge.
The legs are a similar color as the board, so they are most likely from the same type of wood (possibly even the same tree). Signs of white wax residue (mostly on the underside and legs) are a good thing, showing the board has been cared for, but I'd recommend cleaning that off with a dry towel, and reapplying a paste wax. FedEx International Priority shipping to the US from Japan is already included in the purchase price, a $300 service that reduces the actual transit time to only 5 business days. This is half of the overall cost, but is necessary given the board's size (the shipping fee will not be included in the Declared Value for VAT). A downgrade to Surface shipping is possible to save $150, but please use the chat widget to request this change at your own risk.
