This awesome goban set came to Baduk Club from a thrift shop in Saitama, Japan.
The board is 6cm thick and has a pleasant yellow color that is easy on the eyes. The seller thinks that it is Kaya, given the density (5kg) but it could be Hiba or Shinkaya. It is a hagi board, made of multiple pieces - this helps prevent warping which can occur when a board this thin is made from a single piece. The board may have been treated with a yellow coloring agent when it was made - this helps the different pieces appear more uniform and was the fashion in the 1980s. It sits on 4 rubber feet. There are some small scratches and regular wear and tear, but the board comes with a paulownia lid for protection while in storage.
The bowls are Shin-sakura (mahogany), size XL and they fit the stones with a comfortable amount of room to spare.
The stones are nearly a full set (missing 4 white and 1 black). They were not measured but look size 32 or 34 (about 9mm). The black will be slightly wider than the wide to account for black's slimming effect.
