This board came to Baduk Club from an antique dealer in Kagawa, Japan.
The board is a lovely candy color typical of Kaya. It is a 4-piece hagi board, where the wood has been joined together - this type of construction is quite common for a table board, since making it from a single piece can lead to eventual warping. The board has a raised lacquer grid made with tachimori. Red resin streaks are visible in the engrain.
On the playing surface, the white wax residue should clean up with a dry cotton cloth (or an application of our Monkey Butter). Some scratches exist on the underside, as it was not being elevated with felt feet.
This is a vintage item.
