This Goban set came to Baduk Club from a private home in Fukuoka, Japan.
The board has a warm-color heartwood that is a consistent orange/red, fading just slightly farther from the center. This points towards Katsura, but could be Matsu. It is a Kiura cut, the most preferred of Center cut when the tree is not large enough for a Cross cut. This is a Plain-sawn cutting style, which shows off the growth rings of the tree on the ends, with straight lines along the sides. The board has a raised lacquer grid made with Tachimori. It stands about 23cm tall with legs. It was well-kept, but has some slight discoloration on the lower edge that may clean up with some scrubbing.
The bowls are Keyaki or Mulberry, with nice lines. The stones are slate and shell but were not measured or counted. They look like standard stones 8-9mm thick (size 30-34). If it is not a full set, please contact us regarding replacement pieces.
