This lightweight wooden lid helps protect a valuable floor board. Cut with square joints, this design is made without nails that could scratch the board. Ensuring minimal exposure to drafts and light, this helps a board maintain its moisture level and prevent warping.
It is still recommended to treat the board with wax, to close the pores of the wood. This is because our floor boards come from Japan where it is very humid, and they can change shape and crack if they dry out too quickly.
A cloth cover is also recommended to fill the gap between the board and the lid. This will minimize wear and to prevent rattling (a cotton tablecloth works nicely). A cloth cover should drape a bit below the lid, creating a skirt, so that the board is not handled with bare hands - oils from the hands will build up over time to create dark areas.
This will fit a board up to 5.3inches thick. See photos for internal dimensions.
This one is used, but has very little wear. Slight separation around the joints in the corners could be remedied with wood glue if desired.
