This vintage board was refurbished in our Colorado workshop.
The board is a warm brown/orange color, typical of Katsura, but it could be pine or another wood. The grid is traditional raised lacquer, which shines in the glare of the light.
The construction is very old-fashioned but sturdy, with mortice and tenon joints instead of hinges. This is nice because there won't be hinges to scratch a table, and the reverse side is available (in this case there is a Shogi board).
One of the side has worn more than the other, with some grid loss. We suspect that something was stored on top of it like a houseplant.
The board was cleaned with denatured alcohol, then treated with Monkey Wax and given 4 weeks to cure.
This is a vintage item.
