This wonderful set of go equipment was refurbished in our Colorado workshop.
The stones are size 36 slate & shell. They have been cleaned per our Care Instructions. As you can see from the photos, the white pieces are Mexican clamshell about 10mm thick, with a variety of grades but mostly Snow-grade. The black pieces are slate about 10.3mm thick. It is preferred that the black be slightly larger than the white, so that they look the same size when side-by-side on the board. In this case the black pieces are both wider and thicker.
The clamshell stones were washed, soaked in h2o2 for a week, rinsed with distilled water, dried, and buffed with iso-paraffin wax. The black stones were washed and rinsed with distilled water, but they have not been buffed with mineral oil so we leave that option to you.
The bowls look like Karin (Quince), but with a much darker tone than usual. Quince is a dense wood with good longevity. It is sometimes called Indian Rosewood, and will slowly change color over time from red to orange to brown. However, these border on brown/black so they may be a similar wood in the Ebony family. In any case, they are XL size, and they fit the size 36 stones snugly. The bowls were refurbished with a treatment of Monkey Wax, a combination of beeswax and linseed oil.
One of the bowls had two hairline cracks near the rim, which we glued to keep from spreading. One of the lids has the shadow of an old sticker on the underside.
This is a Vintage product.
