This Japanese go board was shipped to Colorado for refurbishing. It may be a kind of Kaya, as it bears a sticker ensuring that the proper permits were held for cutting the tree it was made from. It may also have been a slow-growing Spruce, as it does not have a distinct sweet scent. In any case, the growth rings are tightly packed and it is very dense.
The board is gently used. It was scrubbed with a plastic abrasive and denatured alcohol, then treated with our Monkey Butter.
The board is 5.5cm thick, and is a hagi board made of 2 separate pieces. This helps ensure that it will not warp over time, like some single-piece table boards have been known to do. It stands on 4 plastic feet and weighs 5kg.
Over time a small amount of wear has occurred, and some of the corners are rounded slightly.
