This board came to Baduk Club from a go parlor in Tokyo that shut down. It was shipped to Colorado for refurbishing. The board has a raised lacquer grid, which was saved. We sanded the bottom and sides, cleaned the playing surface, and treated it with Monkey Butter (mineral oil and beeswax).
The board is about 5.7cm thick, and it is a single piece with a Kiura cut. This is a plain-sawn board that shows off the heart of the tree. The nice thing about a board this thick is that it can be used as a table board without the legs, if desired.
Adhesive tape was removed from the bottom of the legs, which was probably in place to keep them from scratching tatami mats. The legs will fit snugly in their mortises, please use a nylon or rubber hammer to seat them gently.
Some photos were taken during the refurbishing process, which will be in an album on Instagram (link coming later). A small dent in one edge was filled with beeswax.
The wood type is not known.
