This is a lovely go set, with a nice table board, refurbished go bowls, and slate & clamshell go stones.
The board is a 4-piece hagi board. This construction helps avoid warping (which can occur with a thin board made of a single piece). It was refurbished by sanding the sides and bottom, then treating with Monkey Butter. The top has a raised lacquer grid.
The wood is Chestnut, a dark brown tone. They are XL size and fit the stones snugly. They were refurbished in our Colorado workshop by being scrubbed clean and treated with Monkey Butter.
The 180 white pieces are a Mexican clamshell. The bright white clamshells have a variety of grades but most are Moon or Snow grade, please see the photos for details. They were soaked in h2o2 for 1 weeks, then rinsed with distilled water and buffed with iso-paraffin wax.
The 181 black stones are slate, and are slightly larger than the white. This is preferred so that they appear the same size side-by-side (black has a slimming effect). They were washed with soapy water and rinsed with distilled water, but have not been buffed with mineral oil as we leave that choice to you.
