This is a handsome but humble go set.
The board is a 3-piece hagi board. This construction helps avoid warping (which can occur with a thin board made of a single piece). The top has a raised lacquer grid, which was preserved. The remaining sides were sanded, then the whole board was treated with Monkey Butter. The endgrain looks a bit like Kaya, but it doesnt seem quite heavy enough so it is most likely Hiba or Shinkaya.
The bowls are size XL Sakura (cherry) or something similar. They have their original finish in good shape, so they were not refurbished.
A paulownia storage box is included. It has a nice patina from age, though its original ribbon has been replaced. A crack exists on the top, this may be glued, filled, or left as-is.
The 180 white pieces are utility-grade Mexican clamshell, 8mm. They were soaked in h2o2 for a week to restore their bright white color.
The 181 black stones are slate, about 8.4mm. It is preferred that the black pieces be thicker, to account for black's slimming effect.
An original box for the stones is included.
