This Japanese go board was shipped to Colorado for refurbishing. It has the unmistakeable endgrain of Agathis, and the density confirms this. It weighs 5.3kg.
This is a single-piece board. Because agathis is very dense, it is possible to achieve a hihou-masa cut. This quarter-sawn style is preferred, as it provides straight lines on all the surfaces.
The board has rubber feet to avoid scratching a tabletop. These can be easily removed with a phillips screwdriver.
The board is used. It was scrubbed with mineral spirits to remove a layer of brown paint, then treated with our Monkey Butter.
It has some wear on the surface from a lifetime of regular play.
