This wonderful set of go equipment was refurbished in our Colorado workshop. In my 24 years of playing and 4 years of refurbishing clamshell sets, we have never seen white stones quite like this.
As you can see from the photos, the 179 white pieces are not a typical clamshell material. Unlike normal clamshell, these stones have nacre which gives them an iridescent shine. The material is not known, we suspect that they are from pearl oysters or something similar. They were washed, soaked in h2o2 for a week, rinsed with distilled water, then buffed with paraffin wax. The pieces are about 8.4mm thick on average. Five have been chipped to varying degrees, these will be included as replacements are not possible.
The 181 black stones are slate, about 9mm thick. They were washed and rinsed with distilled water, but they have not been buffed with mineral oil so we leave that option to you.
The bowls are size XL. They have been lacquered black, so it is difficult to tell the type of wood underneath. They are not new and have some slight wear. They fit the stones snugly and help accentuate the contrast of the slate and shell.
