This 8cm go board was refurbished in our Colorado workshop. The end grain was scrubbed and the board and legs received a fresh coat of Monkey Butter.
The board is lovely, and the playing surface is in really good shape. It has a light-colored heartwood that is most likely Matsu (pine). The legs bring it to a height of 21cm tall, or you can remove the legs to use it as a table board.
The board is a single piece of wood cut in a Plainsawn style (Kiura). This cut shows off the log's growth rings on the endgrain. On the sides, there are straight grains, and the top and bottom have cross-grain patterns.
The surfaces are good but there are edge and corner defects due to shipping damage. The wood has been sanded down where it was broken to avoid splintering.
It has a traditional grid made of raised lacquer.
This is a vintage item.
